Education in the United States is an education system in the United States that is operated by the United States Department of Education. As mandated by law, all citizens of the United States must attend school for at least twelve years, and then may decide if they wish to attend college. The process includes three years of primary education, starting at the age of four and ending at the age of seven, three years of secondary education, starting at the age of seven and ending at the age of ten, and four years of tertiary education, starting at the age of ten and ending at the age of thirteen. Following graduation from high school, a student chooses if they wish to attend college or not.
